Who’s In Your Top 5? : The Types of People You Should Keep Close

supportNot everyone who’s on top today got there with an uninterrupted stream of success. More often than not, those who history best remembers were faced with numerous obstacles that forced them to work harder and show more determination than others.

Next time you’re feeling down about your misfortunes in school or in a career, remind yourself that sometimes disappointments are just the first step towards success.

There’s nothing worse than going through those low periods in our lives, than going through them feeling alone. This is a time when it’s crucial to surround yourself with not many people, but with the right people. Take a good look at the people you connect with most. Look at your network – now examine their net worth (and I’m not just talking dollars and cents).

5 TYPES OF PEOPLE YOU NEED TO KEEP AROUND

1. The Helper

This person can help connect you with new allies. This person breaks through roadblocks and finds ways to make magic happen. You need this person to reach people and places you can’t.

2. The Pusher

This is the loud, sometimes aggressive person who demands you get things done. Someone who pushes you, who makes you think. This person makes sure deadlines are met and goals are reached.

3. The Voice of Reason

This is the devil’s advocate, who asks the hard questions and sees problems before they arise. If you’re like me, you can get stuck in your own thoughts and way of doing things, hence you need this person’s perspective. They are looking out for you, and want you to be as safe as you are successful.

4. The Rah-Rah-Sis-Boom-Bah

This person is your biggest cheerleader, a huge fan, and strong supporter of you and your work. This person keeps you motivated, while you work to keep them engaged.

5. The Been There Done That

This person is your mentor and your hero. It’s the person who, in some way, shape or form, you seek to emulate. Their presence acts as a constant reminder that you, too, can do amazing things. When all is said and done, you want to make this person proud.
